A couple months ago on a Sunday As I listened to God’s word being preached, some powerful words were spoken that really made me stop and think. I have never heard it put like this before, and I never thought about it like this before, but it is so true! It prompted me to evaluate my life in each of these aspects. I’m going to share it with you today in hopes that it will cause you to evaluate yourself as well. It goes like this:
WATCH YOUR: | BECAUSE THEY WILL BECOME YOUR: |
Thoughts → | Words (speaking/writing your choice of words as an expression to others) |
Words → | Actions (doing something, or an act, that you choose) |
Actions → | Habits (a regular or routine practice that is hard to give up) |
Habits → | Character (the mental and moral qualities of someone) |
Character → | Destiny (the things that will necessarily happen to someone in the future; fate) |
These words have stuck in my mind since the service, henceforth, I will become more conscious of the thoughts I think! Because, like it says, just thoughts in your head can have a domino effect on your whole self…your present and future.
One thing my mama always used to tell me and my sister was that we need to think positive. I used to hate when she said it because I thought it made absolutely no sense at all! I thought, just because I think something doesn’t mean I’m gonna say or act on it. Well in my, now, older and wiser years I completely agree with my mother and her positive thinking theory!
It absolutely makes sense and can be a little scary when you ponder it! We should strive to always keep our thoughts positive…which is absolutely impossible if we try to do it on our own. But with God, we know, nothing is impossible!
God is omniscient (all knowing), so He already knows our thoughts and our actions that follow. We are to strive to be like Him in all things. I feel like a great place to start is by controlling our thoughts…keep our mind and eyes on Him. Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
If our thoughts become our words…our words become our actions…our actions become our habits…our habits become our character…and our character become our destiny…then…what is your destiny???

Melissa, thank you for sharing this message. It’s a very timely reminder for me. I also suffer from depression and anxiety. I know that ‘as a man thinketh so is he’ yet how often I forget! This was a reminder I needed today!!
